Stahl Breaks Division III Completion Percentage Record in 56-0 Victory over Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College football team (5-2 , 5-0) rolled the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets (2-6 , 2-4) in a shutout victory, 56-0.
 
W&J quarterback Kellan Stahl (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) highlighted the day with a record-setting performance in his two and a half quarters of play. Stahl broke the NCAA Division III record for highest completion percentage in a game with a minimum of 20 attempts, going 27-for-28 (96.4%) on the day for 408 yards and five touchdowns. The record was previously held by two John Carroll quarterbacks, most recently Nick Semptimphelter who broke the record this season with a 96.2% completion percentage (25-for-26). Both times the record was set this season, it occurred against Waynesburg.
 
Jacob Macosko (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township)John Peduzzi (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian Academy) and Joey DeSabato (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) all led the receiving room with 90 plus yards each. Macosko and DeSabato each finished the shutout victory with two touchdowns while Peduzzi hauled in one. Kobe Derosa (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) and Cam Mulvaney (Hopkinton, Mass./Bridgton Academy (Maine)) each had one rushing touchdown each.
 
The W&J defense held the Waynesburg offense to 81 yards of total offense. Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the defensive attack with 10 total tackles along with 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. Aidan Thomas (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) led the team in tackles for loss with 2.5 and 1.0 sack with one pass breakup. Angelo Volomino (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) picked up his fourth interception of the season as one of the two Waynesburg turnovers.
 
The Presidents scored 35 first half points to coast into the halftime break with a large margin advantage. The Red & Black's first quarter scoring came off a three and out and an interception from the W&J defense, 14-0.
 
W&J added on in the second quarter with three passing touchdowns, 35-0. Two of the touchdown grabs were brought in by DeSabato and one was caught by Macosko.
 
The Presidents coasted to the 56-0 final score in the second half. W&J scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and ended the scoring in the fourth on a 15-yard Mulvaney rushing score.
 
W&J Football returns to the Cameron Stadium gridiron next Saturday (Nov. 1) for a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup under the lights against Case Western Reserve. Kickoff is set for a 6:05 p.m. start.
