This game took place on the biggest untelevised stage in Division III football in 2001: the national semifinals.

The Profs of Rowan came in at 11-1, having won their three playoff games by an average of 33 points. Bridgewater was in just its second trip to the playoffs, still building the program. And as it turned out, a classic game was decided after it should have been over.

The video at right showed later what Rowan knew all along -- the game should have been over. But instead, with the clock having stopped at 0:01 mid-play for no reason on a 49-yard pass down to the 1-yard line. With the extra play, Jason Lutz hit Brian Ratliff for the touchdown, sending Bridgewater down the road to play in Stagg Bowl XXIX. 

"We got screwed," Rowan coach K.C. Keeler said after the game, which turned out to be his last as coach of the Profs. "There's no ifs, ands or buts about it. This was home cookin'."

The officiating crew was from the North Coast Athletic Conference, not Bridgewater's home conference. The inattentiveness to the clock on the field led the NCAA to spring for seven-man officiating crews in the playoffs, including a back judge.
